I am new to cross stitch and am most comfortable using 14 ct aida but find I often have difficulty getting the needle through the center of the square to form a 1/4 st - can anyone help me? Thank you.

    Hi Connie,

My suggestion would be to take a straight pin for a sharp needle, usually the needle you're stitching with on 14 count is pretty blunt. Anyway take the pin or sharp needle and go through the middle of the square where you need to put the 1/4 stitch. Hopefully that will make it easier for your needle to go through. You'll find as you get more comfortable with cross stitching that a lot of people will use a higher count fabric and stitch over 2. For example you could stitch your piece on 28 count and stitch over two squares, which makes doing fractional stitches easier as the hole is already there, and it will come out the same size as 14 count. Hope that helps. Enjoy your day and happy stitching...Judy :) Go to top
