I am a social worker and work closely with nursing homes. I have an elderly alzheimers lady who used to cross stitch all the time. The traditional cross-stitching is too hard for her to do anymore between eye sight and hand coordination. We are seeking to find an alternative for her. What would you guys suggest for me to look for? A point in the right direction will be a huge help.

Have you thought of stamped projects? The stitching is a lot bigger than the other cross stitch.

I am not sure if this was the original post..... but a while back someone posted a similar request. I suggested using plastic canvas. The needles are larger, stronger and the holes in the plastic are easier to stitch. I never received the courtesy of a response then.

Our Activities dept works closely with several ladies like this. We use plastic canvas and very easy to do patterns. Once a week we hold a "needle work" session where even those not capable of stitching can enjoy being part of a group and talking about projects they have done. We hold a County Fair each Sept and a craft fair in December where the residents can sell their projects. We encourage staff and family to bring in items that they or the resident has made. The list is endless.
